  the CARDINAL'S ANNUAL APPEAL

the Cardinal's Annual Appeal Update

To date our parish has received $72,387 from 212 parishioners in pledges towards the 2014 Cardinal’s Appeal.  Our parish number is 496 and our goal is $139,500.  For this Appeal to be truly successful, we must have the support of all of our families.  The Appeal is a vital source of funding for the programs and ministries that sustain the parishes across our Archdiocese.  It is not too late to make your gift.  Thank you for your kind support.

BOIL WATER ADVISORY ISSUED FOR OSSINING THROUGH SUNDAY
Residents instructed to boil water before
drinking or using in food preparation
NEWS RELEASE
Sherlita Amler, MD, Commissioner, Department of Health
Ned McCormack, Communications Director
Contact:  Caren Halbfinger (914) 813-5013 / after hours: 813-5000
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: August 1, 2014

For more information, residents should contact the Village of Ossining Water Department at 914-941-4661 or visit their website at www.villageofossining.org.

Residents of a central section of the Village of Ossining who are served by the Village of Ossining Water Department must boil their water before drinking it or using it for food preparation at least through Sunday and until further notice.  This is due to a water main break that occurred Thursday night on Route 134 near Route 9A.

A boil water advisory means that residents in the affected area must boil all tap water at a rolling boil for a minimum of one minute prior to drinking it or using it for food preparation, washing dishes by hand and brushing teeth. Restaurants, delis, bodegas and all food service establishments in the affected area must also boil water before serving it or using it to prepare food. Residents can also use bottled water as an alternative to boiling.
The advisory does not extend to bathing, clothes washing or the use of a dishwasher. Residents who have concerns about using the water should follow up with their doctor.

About 5,000 people are in the affected area which includes streets as far west as Route 9; as far  east as Morningside Drive; as far north as Hawkes Avenue at Bridle Path Road and as far south as Macy Road at Wolden Road. A complete list of affected streets follows.

In an abundance of caution, the boil water advisory was issued to protect from potential contamination caused by ground water infiltration into water mains as a result of the reduction in water main pressure due to a water main break.

Once the Village of Ossining Water Department completes repairs to the water main, water will be flushed from the mains through some fire hydrants in the area. Once that flushing is completed, the Westchester County Department of Health and the Village of Ossining Water Department will take water samples throughout the affected area, early this morning. Those samples will be tested at the Indian Brook Water Treatment Plant laboratory for coliform bacteria.

There is a 24-hour turnaround time for the bacteriological testing, and a second round of satisfactory test results will be needed before the health department can lift the advisory.

Updates on the repairs will be provided by Ossining as they become available. Updates to the boil water advisory will be provided by the Health Department as needed. For more information, residents should contact the Village of Ossining Water Department at 914-941-4661 or visit their website at www.villageofossining.org.
